Masaru Kawaguchi was born in 1925 in San Francisco, California and grew up in the Japantown area. Masaru was a Boy Scout. He went to Washington high school where he played on the championship basketball team. After the US joined the war, travel restrictions put on the Japanese Americans prior to the internment prevented Masaru from participating in further sports activities. He was sent the internment camps at the age of sixteen and spent two years interned at Topaz, Utah. | |
